Tasmanian Paper (formerly Australian Paper)
RBD Contracting has been onsite at Tasmanian Paper's Wesley Vale Paper Mill since our company was formed. We performed a range of functions at the site, including project management for electrical projects installations plus other civil work projects, equipment design for capital projects, and all capital expenditure for electrical installations.
Recent examples of work carried out by RBD Contracting at Tasmanian Paper include:
- The installation of an 11 kV/ 5.6 MVAR capacitor bank for power factor correction. In delivering this, RBD Contracting personnel evaluated the integrity of a vintage 4 MW alternator — utilising records and blueprints — to assess what equipment could be removed or reused.
- The electrical and instrumentation installation of natural gas equipment in support of the conversion of the Wesley Vale facility from oil to gas. This comprised the installation of three natural gasfired boilers, including the design, instrumentation selection and procurement, and the final commissioning for the boilers, the installation of two new natural gas infra-red paper drying units, including modifications to Marsden–supplied controls panels, and the electrical and instrumentation installation of two natural gas airheating paper drying units.
- The conversion of four paper winding machines from analogue DC drive systems to digital DC drive systems. RBD Contracting was responsible for the cabling and wiring design, incorporating conversion of the PLC control — with Citect operator interface — from relay logic, followed by the final installation cutover within a four day outage period.
